Parttime job, pros or cons?

This is a dilemma question for students and their parents. Some of Taiwanese parents won’t accept their children to find a partime job instead of paying attention on their study. Some parents encourage their children to find a partime job in order to accumulate more social experiences; otherwise, they could also earn some money for themselves.

From my own experience, in early twenties, my parents refused me to find a partime job when I was a junior college student. Therefore, I envied my classmates who could find a short term job in small clinics because they had their own money through one or two months working in the clinics and they could put their skills and knowledge into practice. As the result, when it comes to skill training class, I seldom get good marks through those classes; it was really frustrating to me.

However, while I studied in university, I found a partime job in a language center. It really brought me a lot of fun and learnt a lot experiences about English teaching. In the daytime, I pay most of my time on studying in university; in the night time I became an English teacher. With the two occupations at that time, I knew I was really busy but I did really happy. My first partime job did not interrupt my study; surprisingly, I still did very well on all courses I took. Besides, I could earn my own salary to pay my approximately ten thousand dollars insurance fee while I was a student. Because of partime job, I also learnt time management. It really helped me handle the day job and night job. Because of my outfit about dealing with the two jobs really well, therefore, my father did not against me to do my job.

From my experience, I really suggest students should find a partime job while being a student. To the extent of this issue, there are two advantages as follow. One is socialization and the other is time management. Socialization means students could gain more social skills through getting along with colleagues, directors. Even in the small cram school, around 100 students, it is like a small society. You still could learn something, for example, administration system, money management, students’ emotional problems. The most important is patient. The longer you work as a partime staff, the more you learn through students, their parents and your nagging directors. Moreover, time management is also important object to learn.  In the real working environment, staffs usually have to accept plenty of orders or works in a day. Deciding what to do first is a must learn lesson to everybody especially in Taiwan because Taiwan is such competitive society that everybody have to use their time perfectly in order to make the best efficiency effect of time management.

Through partime job, I think it will be a great help for most of students. But I still insist that every student should both handle their study and patime job well to make a win-win result. In contrast, if students couldn’t handle the two job well, I believe it will become a disaster to school life.
